Personal Update 9

Today I weighed myself and I was 262.8 lbs. I know they say weight loss is not linear, but this was a little irritating. I would’ve been mad, but I noticed over the past couple weeks that my clothes are fitting a little looser. Plus I’m still showing pink on my Stix, so I’m ok. I actually upped my calories and felt pretty good from last week, but I ruined it because I was out all weekend and had limited food choices (the only keto-friendly food available was sunflower seeds). I also didn’t track my food intake on MFP this week either, because I didn’t really have time to shop at the grocery store.

These past two weeks have been pretty rough and I’m just glad they’re over. When I haven’t been working or handling some kind of ridiculous errand, I’ve been trying to catch up on sleep. I apologize for missing last week’s update. I had actually gained 1.5 lbs back, but I was still in ketosis so I’m assuming that it was water weight I had from a social gathering meal a few days prior.

I know this is gonna sound like an excuse, but I don’t think my scale is very reliable anymore. Even this morning, I had to weigh myself six times to see a consistent number. Then I took a leak (sorry), and I actually GAINED 0.2 lbs. How does that even work?? I swear it just settles on a number it likes, and is like, “Aahhh ok cool. Let’s stick with this weight until he puts me away for next Monday.” So soon as I get a chance, this scale is gone. I’m thinking maybe it has PTSD since I took it to Afghanistan. *shrug*

Talk to you guys soon. Btw, if you haven’t been looking at the recipes around here (WordPress), I suggest you do. Great ideas, especially those peanut butter cups KetoSweetheart made. I’m a chocolate fanatic.

Ketogenic Hunger

I meant to write this yesterday, but I got caught up doing other stuff and ran out of time before I had to work. Anyway, I just wanted to make a quick post about hunger in ketosis.

Here’s one of the benefits about this diet, or “lifestyle” as it should be called (because you don’t wanna go back to carbs after doing this):

Your hunger disappears.

That’s right…when you do keto, your hunger pretty much goes away. I think a lot of people confuse hunger with cravings, and it’s hard to distinguish the difference when that’s all you know. Actual hunger when you’re in ketosis is something like this:

  1. You get a slight rumble in your stomach.
  2. You realize you still have a few hours before you’re actually hungry, if you even get hungry.
  3. You have time to plan what you’re gonna eat, or at least have options nearby.
  4. You eat, and you’re good for another 4 hours or possibly the rest of the day.
  5. You continue whatever you were doing without distraction.

(Note that as I’m writing this, I’ve only eaten once today, I’m not even close to being hungry, and I probably won’t eat again for another 5-6 hours.)

When you’re eating a diet high in carbs, on the other hand, the process goes a little more like this:

  1. You’re hungry randomly for no reason.
  2. You need to eat something, anything, RIGHT NOW.
  3. You don’t have time to microwave anything or your stomach will literally eat itself.
  4. You eat the most readily available food you can find, which is usually in the form of junk food (chips, candy, doughnuts, pastries, cereal, cookies, etc).
  5. You’re “full” for an hour or two (more like bloated), and then that familiar “hunger” comes back.

I’ll take keto hunger over carb hunger any day. The silly cravings go away, you can walk by your favorite dessert and not blink twice, you can move on with your day without having to schedule around food, and you don’t have energy crashes. I’m not a scientist, nor do I claim to be some kind of expert or guru, but this is what I’ve personally experienced myself. Feel free to add any input below with your experiences on keto.

P.S. My KetoStix are pink. I was gonna post a pic, but then I realized that’s kinda gross.
